UCLA is beefing up its special teams! The Bruins just secured a commitment from Sam Houston's punter, Curtis Gerrand. This is a strategic move that could significantly impact their game.
UCLA has welcomed Curtis Gerrand, a transfer from Sam Houston, to their roster. This addition strengthens their special teams unit, a crucial element often overlooked by fans.
Gerrand, hailing from Australia, joined Sam Houston last spring as a freshman and immediately made an impact. As a freshman starter, he punted an impressive 64 times, averaging 43 yards per punt.
Standing at 6'1 and weighing 190 pounds, Gerrand has three years of eligibility remaining. This is particularly timely for UCLA, as their 2025 punter, Will Karoll, entered the Transfer Portal this week.
But here's where it gets interesting: UCLA isn't just relying on Gerrand. They've also secured a recommitment from Chase Barry, who spent a season at Oklahoma State before returning to the Bruins.
Adding to the good news, UCLA's kicking game is also looking solid. Mateen Bhaghani, their starting kicker for 2025, has withdrawn from the Transfer Portal and will return to UCLA. Furthermore, long snapper Salem Abdul-Wahab, who briefly considered transferring, has also recommitted.
