Cillian Murphy Clarifies Future of '28 Years Later' and 'Harry Potter' Rumors
Cillian Murphy, the acclaimed actor known for his role in Peaky Blinders, is addressing recent speculation about his involvement in two major franchises: 28 Years Later and Harry Potter. Murphy, who recently reprised his role as Jim in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, confirms that a sequel is in the works and expresses enthusiasm for its potential.
"Hope so!" Murphy told The Times, indicating his eagerness for a follow-up film. He also clarifies his stance on a different rumor, stating, "I’m categorically not" interested in playing Voldemort in the television adaptation of the Harry Potter series. Murphy attributes his reluctance to the challenges of embracing a celebrity lifestyle, saying, "Being a personality is not what I am good at." He emphasizes his preference for a more private and average existence, stating, "I’m an incredibly average person, really."
The Harry Potter television series, set to air on HBO, has already cast its leading roles, including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stour as Ron. Other notable actors joining the cast are Paapa Essiedu as potions master Snape, John Lithgow as headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. The series is written and directed by the Succession duo, Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, with Gardiner serving as showrunner and executive producer, and Mylod directing multiple episodes and serving as an executive producer.
