A childcare center operating from a residence in Bandar Sri Sendayan has been ordered to shut down following the death of a one-year-old girl under its care.
Muhammad Yusry Che Dah, director of the Negeri Sembilan Social Welfare Department, said investigations showed the operation ran without registration under the Child Care Centre Act 1984.
He explained that even when a daycare runs out of a home, it must be registered with the department if it cares for four or more children. A thorough inspection is required before any approval is granted.
In this case, authorities believe the house had been functioning as a daycare for almost two years, with initial reports indicating six to seven children were under the nanny’s supervision, he told Bernama on Saturday (Dec 13).
Previously, Seremban Police Chief (OCPD) Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim stated that a one-year-old girl died after being taken to a private clinic in Bandar Sri Sendayan last Monday (Dec 8). Early investigations indicated the child was under the care of a 32-year-old nanny who was reportedly in poor health at the time.
Azahar noted that a post-mortem revealed abdominal injuries, and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Separately, Muhammad Yusry urged parents to enroll their children only in registered childcare facilities to ensure care adheres to established regulations, thereby reducing the likelihood of such incidents. He reiterated that the department will not tolerate operators who break the law, underscoring that children’s safety and welfare remain the department’s top priority. – Bernama
