Canadian MPs Denied Entry: Israel's Controversial Move in the West Bank (2026)

Breaking News: Six Canadian Members of Parliament were recently barred from entering the occupied West Bank by Israeli authorities, sparking immediate controversy and raising serious questions about diplomatic relations.

This incident, which occurred just 16 minutes prior to the initial report, involved a delegation of 24 other individuals attempting to cross the border from Jordan. The group was part of a trip organized by The Canadian-Muslim Vote (TCMV), a non-profit organization. But here's where it gets controversial...

According to the Israeli ambassador to Canada, the denial stemmed from TCMV's alleged links to Islamic Relief Worldwide, an NGO that Israel has designated as a terrorist group. Both Islamic Relief Worldwide and its Canadian affiliate vehemently deny this characterization, with TCMV also asserting that its funding comes exclusively from vetted donors.

Israeli military body COGAT, which oversees the Allenby border crossing, cited "security reasons" for the denial, stating that the group of 30 had arrived without prior coordination. The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) expressed deep concern, noting that its staff members and community leaders were among those affected.

The MPs involved included Fares Al Soud, Iqra Khalid, Aslam Rana, Gurbux Saini, and Sameer Zuberi from the governing Liberal Party, along with Jenny Kwan from the New Democratic Party. Kwan condemned the situation as "completely unacceptable."

The purpose of the trip, as explained by the NCCM, was to "observe conditions on the ground and engage directly with Palestinian and international stakeholders." Stephen Brown, CEO of the NCCM, criticized the Israeli government, claiming this was part of a broader pattern of restricting access to those seeking to independently witness the realities in the occupied territories.

Iddo Moed, the Israeli ambassador to Canada, reiterated the reason for denial was due to TCMV's links to Islamic Relief Worldwide. In response, Islamic Relief Worldwide called the allegation a "false allegation."

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand confirmed the denial in a statement, adding that her ministry expressed Canada's objections. Interestingly, a similar trip organized by TCMV was permitted in 2024.

Tensions between Canada and Israel have escalated recently, particularly after Canada, along with the UK, France, and other Western nations, formally recognized a Palestinian state in September. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized this recognition as "disgraceful."

And this is the part most people miss... Earlier this year, two UK Labour Party MPs were also denied entry by Israel under similar circumstances. These incidents raise significant questions about freedom of movement and diplomatic relations.
